Wilmington, NC – A post office in Fayetteville is one of a few in the state the U.S. Postal Service is looking at closing.
Facing a $7 billion loss for the fiscal year, the Postal Service is taking a hard look at 700 across the country.
In North Carolina the USPS is looking to see whether it can close seven offices: one in Ashville, five in Charlotte and the 60-year-old Fayetteville Haymount office.
Postal Service spokesperson Enola Rice says postal officials will consider such factors as proximity to other branches.
"We also understand that customers really have an emotional attachment to their neighborhood post office, but the use is sometimes not there."
Rice says there will be a public comment period before the postal service makes any decisions. And says the post office on the Ft. Bragg base is not being considered for closure.
