Brunsco GOP To Tap Stiller Replacement

Former State Representative Bonner Stiller stepped down to spend more time with his family and law firm.

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – Brunswick County Republicans meet Tuesday night to select their nominee to fill the state House seat left open by Bonner Stiller.

Former chairman of the Brunswick County GOP, Frank Iler says he and Brunswick County School Board member Shirley Babson are seeking to replace Stiller.

Iler says as party chairman he got to know the issues during his travels around the county. One of the hottest issues is the proposed state port in Southport. Iler says as Brunswick County's Representative, he would need more time to study the issue.

"I think it needs to be studied a lot more thoroughly I'm not sure it's a good fit for Southport but without jumping on one extreme or the other I need a lot more study and possibility of changing the plan."

Iler says he has shadowed Stiller in Raleigh, and that the two are friends who go to the same church.

Before he retired, Iler worked for Hardee's Foods and owned a Bojangles franchise in Rocky Mount.
