Rep. Stiller: My Family and Business Need Me

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – State Representative Bonner Stiller says he's been working to step away from his legislative seat since March.

Stiller is resigning from the general assembly June 15th. He says he wants to help his law partner maintain their firm. And while he enjoys being a lawmaker, he'd also rather be at home with his four kids.

Stiller says he didn't even want to run during the last election, but his party wanted to make sure a republican held on to the seat.

"It's a swing district, it's very close, I beat David Redwine twice and there was a lot of money spent against me on that. So the thought was you know as close as the district is, uh I didn't particularly want to but I went ahead and made that move."

The Brunswick County Republican Party is expected to tap Stiller's replacement this month. Stiller says he will campaign for his successor
