Screen Gems Ready for Movies to Dive Into Big Tank

By Michael Tomsic

Wilmington, NC – Wilmington's EUE Screen Gems Studios gave local media a look at their brand new film stage on Monday - Stage 10.

It is the third largest film stage and includes the third largest special effects water tank in North America. The tank is a perfect sixty feet by sixty feet square embedded into concrete. It is ten and a half feet deep. Executive Vice President of Screen Gems Bill Vasser predicts Stage 10 will have a huge impact on filmmaking in Wilmington.

"Well I think it'll attract a whole different level of film - film that needs more effects, film that great imagination went into developing. And it'll attract films that cost more money to make and if they cost more money that means that more people will be hired from the local community and more dollars will be spent in local businesses."

Vasser says the tank takes thirty-six to fourty-eight hours to fill. He says Stage 10 is open for business, but no one has booked it yet.
