Wilmington, NC – North Carolina Senator R.C. Soles Jr. says he has his eyes set on Old Baldy license plates.
This is the second time the Columbus County Democrat has introduced the Old Baldy license plate design.
He says the plates, featuring North Carolina's oldest standing lighthouse, would help promote Bald Head and Oak Islands in addition to raising funds for highway operations.
"I don't know if you know, but the wildflower program along the highways and the operation of the rest areas are paid for out of those vanity plates. So the more we can do that way, the better we can beautify the highways."
Last session, the Old Baldy design was folded into a bill, with several other license plate designs including controversial, right-to-life messages. That bill did not make it out of the state Senate.
