Wilmington, NC – The Commanding Officer of the Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune says the Marine Base is experiencing a baby boom.
The number of births per month at the Naval Hospital swelled to 40 percent above average in October.
Captain Gerard Cox says he expects the number of births to keep rising through the end of the year.
Cox says the hospital has hired nurses and physicians to keep up.
"It's one of the things I've been very concerned about: making sure that we have adequate staff and adequate physical space to take care of all those moms and babies."
Cox says the baby boom at Camp Lejeune is a result of the growth of the Marine Corps and the return of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force earlier this year.
