Lakeside High School Gets a Makeover

Principal Jerry Oates

By Michelle Bliss

Wilmington, NC – Lakeside used to be an alternative school for students with academic and behavioral difficulties.

Now it's Mosley Performance Learning Center and it only serves students who have trouble making friends and fitting into a traditional school environment.

The curriculum focuses on performance-based learning, which involves projects and presentations rather than paper tests.

Jerry Oates, principal of Mosley and former principal of Lakeside, says the Pathways program is the only remnant of Lakeside.

"The long-term suspended program will still be housed in this building; however, it is separate from Mosley totally separate. Actually, you're looking at two schools within the same building."

Mosley will serve up to 1-hundred tenth through twelfth graders who can graduate from the program and earn a high school diploma. The new school opens on Tuesday.
