Wilmington, NC – The Wilmington Housing Authority says residents should be moving into the new Taylor Homes senior and subsidized housing complex by mid-August.
By the time the former Taylor Homes complex came down in 2005, it was widely considered one of the most dangerous places in Wilmington.
Since then coffee shops and expensive condos have moved into the historically black north side neighborhood.
The 190-unit development is divided into senior and Section 8 housing. Chairman of the Wilmington Housing Authority Board, Bo Dean.
"The LLC's will manage it in the first year in order to keep their interests running. But after that, the Wilmington Housing Authority will be the principal interest and owners of that property."
Dean says former Taylor Home residents and residents of the Solomon Towers senior home, which is slated to be sold this year, get first choice when doors open at the new development next month.
