Wilmington, NC – Brunswick County's new sheriff John Ingram started as a deputy 17 years ago in the Brunswick County Sheriff's Department. He served briefly as chief deputy of the Columbus County sheriff's department before coming back to Brunswick County to finish former Sheriff Ronald Hewett's term.
Hewett resigned in April after his employees filed a petition to remove him, claiming he was an abusive boss who drank on the job. Now Ingram's job is to keep the county safe and restore confidence in the sheriff's department.
