Interim Housing Director Daniels Dies

By Peter Biello

Wilmington, NC – Interim director of the Wilmington Housing Authority Windell Daniels died Tuesday evening.

He was celebrating the departure of a Wilmington Housing Authority Commissioner at the Port City Chop House when he suffered a heart-attack.

Daniels worked on the 10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness, and served on the boards of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and Cape Fear Community College.

Bo Dean with the Wilmington Housing Authority says he was dedicated to making housing more affordable.

"His passion for helping those who are in need is just unparalleled in this community."

Connie Majure-Rhett with the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce says she knew him as a consensus-builder.

"When he chaired our meetings for the Chamber of Commerce, he never ever closed a meeting without making sure that everyone had all hearts and minds aligned. He just wanted everybody to walk out of the meeting behind the decisions."

Daniels is survived by his wife and two children.
