Wilmington, NC – The Marine accused of killing a pregnant fellow Marine has been captured in Mexico after running from authorities for more than three months.
Police arrested Corporal Cesar Laurean last night in the small western Mexico town of Tacambaro.
Laurean has been accused of murdering pregnant Marine Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach and burying her and her unborn child in his backyard near Camp Lejeune.
Laurean told authorities he survived by sleeping in fields and eating fruit he found.
Amy Thoreson with the FBI says Laurean will be extradited to the United States.
"We're not certain how long that process is going to take but we're hoping it will be quick."
Officials say if Laurean decides to fight the extradition process, it could take a year or two to bring him back.
