Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year.
Before it became a part of the downtown Wilmington skyline, or spawned a growing campus in Castle Hayne, Cape Fear Community College was a simple, light brick building at 13th and Market Street.
The building is now part of New Hanover High School.
While what was known in 1958 as the Industrial Education Center, today Cape Fear Community College has grown into a multi-campus college training many of the area's skilled workers.
College spokesperson David Hardin says the college has been tied to the area's economy since the beginning.
