Wilmington, NC – North Carolina Film Legend Frank Capra Jr has died. Capra died last night from prostate cancer in a Philadelphia hospital.
He was Frank Capra's oldest son, and he went on to devote most of his life to making movies. Capra was part of the production team for Woody Allen's Play It Again Sam and helped his father direct the film Pocket Full of Miracles.
Capra came to Wilmington to make Firestarter which lead to his heading up EUE/Screen Gems Studios. Studio Vice President Bill Vassar says Capra was a joy to be around.
His stories were just incredible, you can imagine someone who grew up in the 30's and 40's in Hollywood and he was such a humble man, he was just so, just a wonderful individual.
Capra received the 2004 North Carolina distinguished filmmakers award. UNCW has set up a scholarship in his memory. Frank Capra Jr. was 73-years-old.
