Wilmington, NC – The town's $2.2 million bid for Yaupon pier was accepted after a bid from a development company fell through. Vereen says he's happy the town has a chance to preserve the pier.
"We've saved a piece of heritage, saved a piece of our coastline that's disappearing so rapidly now," says Vereen. "It's one of the best things that could've happened for the folks who live here."
Vereen says he will seek approval from the town council to lease Yaupon Pier to individuals or corporations. The sale will become final by the end of the month.
