As of 1:00 pm, we are back on full power out at the transmitter site! Our very dedicated George Scheibner jumped in the 'HQR-mobile and drove out to the transmitter site, moved us to backup power, and got the scoop on what happened. A logging crew was removing a dead tree and the tree came down on the power line leading to our transmitter site! Not a Smooth Landing at all!
George snapped a few cell-phone pictures for us to take in the scene:
Update Thursday 9: 54 am:
WHQR experienced a power failure at its main transmitter site in Brunswick County at around 8:20 this morning. We are attempting to restore things and will keep you posted. In the meantime we are transmitting from a backup at 254 North Front Street. Listeners outside the downtown Wilmington area will have trouble picking us up. At the very least we should have a more powerful backup on soon.
When the main transmitter is down, HD1 and HD2 signals are down also. However, web streams of our main channel and all-classical channel (Listen Live at upper left) are still available.
