Violet Karl is a woman with a plan. Disfigured in a childhood accident, she is determined to alter the path of her life with faith healing. In search of her miracle, she leaves her hometown of Spruce Pine, NC, to journey by bus to Tulsa, home of the televangelist she believes can offer her this miraculous transformation. Instead, she learns it is the journey you take in life that helps you discover who you are, and she finds a very different kind of salvation. Doris Betts, an acclaimed North Carolina writer, creates in Violet a strong and vibrant character in that everyone can relate to and Jeanine Tesori, one of the most vibrant composers of modern musical theatre, brings her to indelible life in a score that ranges from Jesus-praising gospel anthems to Memphis blues, from soulful bluegrass to foot-stomping dance tunes. Uncommonly beautiful, Violet is the journey of a lifetime.
