Wilmington Ballet

When the Executive Director of the Wilmington Ballet Company joined us in the studio, I expected to talk about Sugarplum fairies, the Waltz of the Snowflakes, and all the common Nutcracker delights. Instead, the conversation with Elizabeth Hester quickly turned to diversity. Hester feels it is the responsibility of the arts community to to address and heal social divisions--even through a century old Russian ballet like the Nutcracker. How? Partly through casting.

Cape Fear Stage: Progress Report from Shane Fernando

Shane Fernando, the Director of the new Humanities & Fine Arts Center at Cape Fear Community College, dropped by the studio to chat about the first weeks of operation.   The Cape Fear Stage is now the largest performance venue in town, seating a whopping 1,500 people (almost 3 times the size of Thalian Hall).  This 21st century performance center allows for larger acts to perform in the Port City-and the tickets have been selling.
