Man Banned From Paving in North Carolina

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – Attorney General Roy Cooper's office says a paving contractor currently living in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina has been banned from doing any residential paving in North Carolina.

Tommy Edward Clack would go door to door, paving driveways immediately after contracts were signed and charge thousands of dollars.

Those who tried to cancel Clack's paving and get a refund reported that he was uncooperative. State law gives consumers three days to cancel most sales made door to door.

Clack has a history of substandard paving jobs in Wilmington and Greensboro. He also has a history with the courts, which ordered him to stop paving from mid-May until his court date scheduled for Monday. But Clack kept knocking on doors, charging up to $8,500 and paving as soon as the contracts were signed.

He has been ordered to pay more than $27,000 in refunds by July 7th or go to jail.
