WHQR Events

Homemade Holiday Shorts returns for its 24th Anniversary Year with an exciting slate of guests, wonderful holiday music and a delicious feast.

For one evening each year in December, friends of WHQR gather in our MC Erny Gallery and around their radios at home to listen to holiday stories read live by entertaining guests. This year, our storytellers are Rachel Lewis Hilburn and Eleanor Stafford reading emotional and funny tales of the season. And there will be plenty of holiday music from great local surf band, Da Howlies.

THANK YOU to the WHQR Board!!!!

The Friends of Public Radio Board threw a cookout for WHQR's volunteers, staff and their families on Sunday, September 14 at Hugh McRae Park. Our terrific board members baked cookies, made salads and grilled delicious hot dogs and burgers for some very thankful staffers and volunteers. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful board. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!

Be sure to check out the slideshow of this great event (special thanks to Paul Reinmann for all the gorgeous images)!

Father James (Brendan Gleeson) is a priest who receives a death threat during confession and must find out who in his congregation is responsible before it's too late. Although he continues to comfort his daughter (Kelly Reilly) and reach out to help members of his church with their moral - and often comic - problems, he feels sinister forces closing in. Will he have the courage to face his own personal Calvary? A brilliant performance by all, Calvary faces weighty issues with humor, intelligence, and sensitivity. (R, 1hr 40min)
