North Carolina House District 20 covers most of New Hanover County – largely in the northern portion. Holly Grange, a Republican, was first appointed to the seat after Rick Catlin announced he was stepping down.  She then ran unopposed in the 2016 general election and won.

With no Democratic challenger, the winner of the primary election for North Carolina House District 20 is a shoo-in for the seat.  During yesterday’s primary election, voters chose businesswoman and Army veteran Holly Grange over Tammy Covil, a New Hanover County Board of Education member.  Grange won by more than 24 percent.

Republican Rick Catlin will return for a second term to the North Carolina House of Representatives.  Challenger Betsy Jordan lost District 20 to Catlin by a 24% margin.

Representative Catlin says he received positive feedback regarding his first term while out on the campaign trail:

At a Candidate Forum in WHQR’s M.C. Erny Gallery Monday night, a partnership of HQR News and WWAY Newschannel 3, Republican Incumbent Rick Catlin and Democratic Challenger Betsy Jordan told voters that they both value public education, the environment, and the film industry.
