As WHQR previously reported, UNCW Faculty senate members voted last week to censure their chancellor. Just days later, the university’s board of trustees approved a resolution supporting the chancellor, who has also received support from a less expected source.


Tensions between the UNCW chancellor and the greater UNCW community have been boiling for months. This week, things came to a head as the Faculty Senate voted on a motion to censure Chancellor Sartarelli.

Jose Sartarelli, Chancellor of the University of North Carolina Wilmington, took the helm three years ago – in 2015. 

The University of North Carolina Wilmington plans to launch a new school – thanks to the largest gift in the history of the institution.  The highest donation amount so far was $5 million -- given last year by Dr. Yousry and Linda Sayed.

It was last summer that the University of North Carolina at Wilmington said goodbye to Chancellor Gary Miller who left for the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay after three years at UNCW.  This summer, the Board of Trustees announced that Jose “Zito” Sartarelli would officially take the helm July 1st.
