It's no surprise that Bettsy Curtis' daughter wants to be an opera singer. Bettsy holds a Bachelor of Music, a Master of Music, and the Doctor of Musical Arts. Bettsy's also the Director of Music Ministries at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and Adjunct Faculty Accompanist at UNCW. Bettsy's daughter, Holly, studied violin and piano as a child, but she made the switch to voice in high school. Holly is now on the verge of earning her Master of Music from FSU next year.
Holly was recently cast as the Countess in Mozart's Marriage of Figaro in a summer production in Hawaii. To offset the costs involved, Bettsy and Holly decided to perform three fundraising concerts: Afternoon of Arias. The last of these is Sunday, June 5th at 1st Presbyterian Church on 3rd Street, beginning at 5:00 pm. The concert is free-donations are accepted. Listen to our conversation above to hear about how Holly got the role in Figaro and about the concert this Sunday.
