Student Learns Radio Skills At WHQR For Competition
Hoggard High School senior Matthew Smith has an interest in radio. He was able to pursue this interest through a club at school that helps students participate in Skills USA, a program that is focused on technical training for students through competition. Matthew decided to come to WHQR to receive extra training to prepare for the competition.
Matthew spent many hours at WHQR over a couple of months learning new skills. He and his radio competition partner, Johnnie Dickerson, went to the regional and state competitions-they came in 5th place at state, which might not sound impressive, but there were 25 teams competing. Matthew and Johnnie came to the studio to talk about their experience, and Matthew took the raw audio of the interview with him to edit himself (he had fun with it)-and he added in an advertisement for Classical HQR 91.3 at the end.
