New Hanover County District Attorney Ben David has cleared two Wilmington police officers of any charges in last month’s fatal shooting of Gerard Tremblay. David announced the decision today following a nearly month-long use of force investigation.
Officers Brian Wilson and Scott Bramley acted appropriately and diligently on the night of May 29, according to the DA. The two officers killed Tremblay after he pointed a gun at them, and refused to comply with their orders. David says a body camera worn by one of the officers played a vital role in the investigation.
"I am a big proponent of body camera video. I think that it helps the public understand these incidents better in an unbiased way. I think it ultimately protects police and citizens for there to be full accountability and transparency in these encounters."
David says the Tremblay family requests that footage from the body camera not be released. He also says Wilson and Bramley should be permitted to return to work as soon as they are able.
