Help is on the way for small businesses and families – from the state and from federal stimulus checks. But there’s more. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has issued a new Executive Order to help people worried about paying bills on April 1st.
People who can’t afford to pay their electric or gas bill or water or wastewater bill now have six months of breathing room. Governor Cooper’s Executive Order prohibits utilities from shutting off service.
"Telecommunications companies that provide phone, cable, internet services are strongly urged to follow these same rules. also urge banks not to charge overdraft fees. The order is in effect for 60 days."
Eviction actions have already been delayed.
All the Executive Orders he’s issued, says Cooper, are about enhancing the ability of North Carolinians to engage in prevention – which he calls the single most important thing.
"It means maintaining physical distance from each other, washing hands, coughing into the elbow. Those simple things, they’re simple, they can save lives – including your own."
