CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

UNCW's Interim Chancellor Works to Connect State & Higher Education Leadership

In the last year, there have been a slew of departures from the two higher education institutions in the Cape Fear Region. UNCW’s Interim Chancellor, Dr. William Sederburg, spoke with WHQR.

The American Association of State Colleges and Universities represents 430 colleges and universities, including UNCW. Within that advocacy group, Dr. William Sederburg chairs a national task force that aims to make higher education a state policy priority. He says North Carolina is a perfect example of why such a goal is necessary:

"It is not clear what Governor McCrory really wants out of the higher education system in the University of North Carolina. So, the higher education kind of gets beat up by the political system for our weaknesses and difficulties. And so, what this task force is really saying is that, as the economy is improving a little bit, it really is time for the governor and legislative leaders to sit down and have a serious conversation with higher education leadership within the state."

Sederburg says the task force promotes joint agendas between state and higher education leadership, in order to achieve cooperative growth.
