CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

UNCW Board of Trustees Approves Tuition Hike

UNCW’s Board of Trustees has approved a 6.5 percent tuition increase for the 2012-2013 school year.

But, along with that increase, UNCW is also factoring in what’s called a peer alignment that adjusts the tuition rate in comparison to UNCW’s national peer schools.

That alignment increase is nearly $400 for in-state undergraduates. If the changes are approved by the UNC Board of Governors, in-state undergraduate tuition will increase by $600.

UNCW lost nearly 16 percent of its state funding this year, which resulted in the loss of 79 faculty positions and more than 500 course section offerings.

The board’s decision was made at a special meeting Friday.

UNCW students already experienced a 6.5 percent tuition increase this school year.
