Many people may be surprised to learn that the implementation of the Affordable Care Act still left many working people out in the cold when it comes to health insurance in some states, including North Carolina. In order to be eligible to use the healthcare exchange here, an individual must earn more than $11,700 annually. Because these low-wage earners are falling between the cracks, organizations like the Cape Fear Clinic (CFC) are still needed to serve the medical needs of thousands of people in our state.
"3rd Annual Behind the Scenes Breakfast" at the City Club, Tuesday 5/19, 7:30-9:00 am
CFC served nearly 1500 people last year. They provide services including primary care, dental care, and nationally recognized mental health services. In addition to medical care, they also provide prescriptions to patients who would not otherwise be able to afford them.
CFC invites the community to a free breakfast Tuesday morning at the City Club: The 3rd Annual Behind the Scenes Breakfast. The event begins at 7:30 am and runs until 9:00 am. Information about the work they do will be available-and they hope to raise awareness about the continued necessity of the services they provide to the poorest workers in the community. To learn more, listen to the interview here with Barb Biehner (board president) and John Devaney (executive director)-or head over for pancakes and coffee in the morning.
