Sewage Details Clog Annexation Plan

Wilmington, NC – A plan to annex a chunk of land in Monkey Junction has been delayed over murky details about how roughly 80 homes will get sewer and water.

There's a tentative agreement that the city of Wilmington will lay the pipes and the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will manage water and sewer services in the annexed area.

But the authority's chief financial officer Brent McAbee wants the city to clarify operational details before committing to an annexation plan.

"Would an 8 inch water line serve it, did it require a pump station for sewer, various questions about how the area would be served, what kinds of cost they were estimating in terms of putting that infrastructure in," says McAbee.

The city's spokesperson says city staff is working to provide the authority with additional information it needs.

The spokesperson says the city is aiming to have a revised annexation plan before City Council in early February.
