Phase Two Starts Friday - Not Quite What Was Expected

May 20, 2020

Gov. Roy Cooper has announced that Phase 2 of the reopening will begin Friday afternoon. Restaurants and salons will be able to open at a limited capacity, but bars, gyms, and movie theaters will remain closed. That isn’t what a lot of people had expected.

Gov. Cooper’s anticipated announcement yesterday afternoon may have left those eager to get out and some business owners disappointed. He says his order is more modest than originally planned because the number of overall cases continue to increase.

“So, because this data shows that we can, North Carolina will move into a safer at home Phase Two on Friday, May 22nd at 5:00 PM”

The ‘Safer’ means that some places expected to open, won’t be allowed to.

“Now, some businesses and places will remain closed in phase two including bars, nightclubs, gyms and indoor fitness facilities, indoor entertainment venues such as movie theaters, bowling alleys, and museums, and public playgrounds. This is because the potential spread of covert 19 can be significant there.”

This modified Phase 2 will remain in effect while the state monitors new cases and the potential spread of the virus. Vince Winkel, WHQR News.
