CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

NC county unemployment rates rise in November

November county unemployment numbers for North Carolina were released Thursday and show a slight increase from October. Though most counties experienced a rise, figures have improved from a year ago.

According to the North Carolina Labor and Economic Analysis Division, the unemployment rate in most southeastern counties inched up less than 1 percentage point. In Bladen County, November unemployment decreased slightly, while New Hanover’s rate stayed the same as October at 8.6 percent. Unemployment rates in Brunswick, Bladen, Robeson, Pender and Columbus stayed above the statewide rate of nine percent.

The good news is November unemployment figures in all southeastern counties remain lower than a year ago. And though the statewide unemployment rate is up slightly from October, it’s more than 1 percentage point lower than last year.
