CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

A Message About Vince Winkel

A Note to our Listeners:

I'm sure many of you have noticed and some have asked about the on-air absence of our Senior Reporter Vince Winkel. I'm sad to report that Vince suffered a stroke in late July. Out of respect and deference to his family, we've made no mention of this and considered it a private matter. Now, with the permission of his wife Debbie, we can report that Vince is in a rehabilitation facility and working hard to recover.

All of us at the station miss him enormously. He is a talented and tireless reporter, with a distinctive on-air presence that's helped define HQR news. More than that, he has been a friend, a partner, and a teacher to the rest of the news staff and the entire HQR team. We wish him a speedy and full recovery and look forward to seeing him again soon. For those who would like to reach out or send regards, his wife Debbie suggests visiting his facebook page (or his recovery page).

On behalf of the staff and board, we send our love and best wishes to Vince and his family.

Kurt Wilson
Station Manager
