Mayor Uses Pen Name To Report City's Good News

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep. Many politicians must view the media the same way as the mayor of a Salt Lake City suburb did. He thought the story would be so much better if only he could write it himself. Mike Winder thought there was too much crime in the paper, so he started a second career as a freelance writer under the pen name Richard Burwash. Before a policy against pen names forced him to confess, he provided over a dozen newspaper articles and even quoted himself. You're listening to MORNING EDITION.
