Judicial Primary Election To Be Held This Tuesday

New Hanover County Board of Elections

North Carolina’s judicial primaries will be held on Tuesday, June 7th.  All of New Hanover County’s 43 polling places will be open to voters from 6:30AM to 7:30PM.

Four candidates are vying for a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court this Tuesday.  Incumbent Justice Robert H. Edmunds, Jr. is running to remain in his post.  Originally, Justice Edmunds would have faced only a yes-no vote, without any challengers.  But New Hanover County Board of Elections Director Derek Bowens says that retention-election was overturned:

"The State Board of Elections under an order required that we hold this election due to, basically the Supreme Court having a 3-3 decision on whether a judicial retention-election is permissible under the Constitution, and essentially it was deemed that it wasn’t."

Voters can access the judicial voter guide on the New Hanover County Board of Elections website for more details on the candidates running in the judicial primary.
