Friday Feedback for June 5, 2015

Of course our big news this week was the visit of Cokie Roberts to Wilmington on Wednesday. It was our largest fundraising event ever, with 500 people in attendance. Many thanks to event chair Stephanie Meyers, WHQR’s Mary Bradley and our great sponsors and table hosts, and of course Ben Steelman of the Star-News,Frances Weller of WECT, and Alexa Block of WWAY for their stories.

Absolutely wonderful interview with Cokie Roberts on Wednesday’s CoastLine show with Rachel Lewis Hilburn. I ordered her book right after the interview was over...GREAT job to all involved.

Thanks, Rich. If you missed it, you can hear that program tomorrow at 1 pm, or on our website.

I like the jazz program at night. Keep it up please. The news programming is also pretty good now too. Overall, I am happy with the new format. We also like to listen to This American Life and Radio Lab… on the weekends, and Science Friday.

Hi, this is Bernie Roels… . I was listening to the Friday Feedback this Friday and unfortunately there are a lot of negative feedbacks. I just wanted to call and let you guys know that you're doing a great job. I am part of the younger generation, so we do not like the type of music that you play in the afternoon and the evenings. None of us do, maybe 2 or 3 But we do you like everything else. I know I do. I definitely like science and I like pretty much anything to do with the news. This is my main way that I stay in touch, so if you also if you guys had more of that, obviously, but I know that there's a lot of listeners out there that that do enjoy your music, so I'm not gonna make you switch just for me. But it is something to think about as far as getting maybe a different demographic you guys were trying to target. So. Love you guys bye.

I voted for the shows that are important to local radio assuming that ATC, WE, ME, PHC are never going away.

Please do Friday Feedback on [the] classical station. I don't like With Heart & Voice or Sunday Baroque.

Hello, this is Maurice. I just wanted to complain about giving out scores. This afternoon at 1 o'clock, right after the news you went into the sports and gave the results of the Serena Williams game. I’d been taping it, and I'm really disappointed. This isn’t the first time this has happened. It's other scores as well. If you could give a heads up, or an alert (score alert) before given the scores it would be deeply appreciated. Thank you very much.

Friends, how lovely to hear [Johnny Hartman singing] “It’s Wonderful” on Standard Time! In a perfect world, we’d have grown up with ears filled with this one-of-a-kind voice. More sultry than Frank, more powerful than Bing… Alas, we must presume that the white men in charge [at the time] couldn’t countenance a black crooner with a voice that so inhabited romantic emotion - not to mention musical perfection to such an extent that all the greatest players of his time recorded with him. As it is, I learned of him from a Clint Eastwood movie. (For a Republican activist, [Clint] has great taste in music…) This hour is such a joy; I work most evenings at home and listen faithfully. Keep up the good work.”

We’d love to hear from you on Friday Feedback. You can always leave a message via email to feedback@WHQR.org. Our Feedback Phone is 910-292-9477. And thanks for your feedback.
