David Rouzer Wins North Carolina House of Representatives Seat

Republican David Rouzer will represent North Carolina's District 7 in the House of Representatives.

In a winning night for the GOP, Republican David Rouzer has defeated Democrat Jonathan Barfield for North Carolina’s 7th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The 7th District encompasses Brunswick, Columbus, most of New Hanover, and some of Pender -- and it stretches north to the suburbs of Raleigh.

Rouzer says jobs and the economy have been the main focus of this election cycle.  He says he met one woman at the polls who was currently working three part-time jobs just to make ends meet.  Instead of raising the minimum wage, Rouzer says Congress should focus on job creation:

"You grow the economy and you create good-paying jobs, and the minimum wage is hardly even an issue.  Minimum wage increase is one more strain on small businesses on top of all the other rules and regulations.  It really does nothing more than prohibit teenagers and other young people from getting the entry level jobs that they need so that they can grow and have a work history that enables them to get the job that they really want."

In his post-election statement, Jonathan Barfield said that “too many families are caught in a brutal economic squeeze and cannot be cast aside regardless of tonight’s election results.”
