Cinematique Presents: “Sorry To Bother You”

Sep 7, 2018

**Due to the weather, Cinematique has cancelled all screenings of Sorry To Bother You. We hope to be back up and running soon!**

Sorry To Bother You runs from Monday, September 17 thru Wednesday, September 19. It screens Monday to Wednesday at 7pm with an additional screening on Wednesday at 4pm in Thalian Hall’s Main Stage Theatre.

In the absurdist dark comedy and social satire written and directed by Boots Riley, telemarketer Cassius Green struggles to make sales in an alternate reality of present-day Oakland, California, until he discovers a magical key that leads to professional success. But the upswing in Cassius' career raises serious red flags with his girlfriend Detroit, a performance artist and minimum-wage worker. As his friends and co-workers organize against corporate oppression, Cassius falls under the spell of Steve Lift, a cocaine-snorting CEO who offers him a salary beyond his wildest dreams.

From the critics:

Boots Riley's Sorry to Bother You ambitiously pushes the envelope of the sci-fi and comedy genres for a wholly unique, refreshing and hilarious film.

Molly Freeman, Screen Rant

Mr. Riley isn’t constructing yet another postmodern playhouse out of borrowings and allusions. He’s building a raft, and steering it straight into the foaming rapids of racism, economic injustice and cultural conflict.
