Cinematique Presents: “Colette”

Oct 24, 2018

Colette runs from Monday, November 19 thru Wednesday, November 21. It screens Monday to Wednesday at 7pm with an additional screening on Wednesday at 4pm in Thalian Hall’s Main Theatre.

After marrying a successful Parisian writer known commonly as “Willy,” Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette (Keira Knightley) is transplanted from her childhood home in rural France to the intellectual and artistic splendor of Paris. Soon after, Willy convinces Colette to ghostwrite for him. She pens a semi-autobiographical novel about a witty and brazen country girl named Claudine, sparking a bestseller and a cultural sensation. After her husband takes credit for her literary success, Colette must fight for creative ownership in an era of divisive gender roles and societal constraints.

This biopic offers a fascinating, revelatory look at how far women's rights and LGBTQ acceptance have come in a century.

Keira Knightley stars in the attractive biographical movie Colette, about the French writer, which takes a light, enjoyably fizzy approach to its subject.
