Embattled New Hanover County Commissioner Brian Berger is facing yet another legal issue after his arrest early this morning on a DWI charge.    The police report says Berger was arrested at 2:39 AM for driving while impaired.

New Hanover County Commission Chair Woody White says members of the Board are tired of distractions.   When the Commission called for Berger’s resignation in 2011, Berger refused.   But the newly-elected White says he hopes Berger will now take a close look at what’s best for him – and his constituents.

“We are in a similar situation that we can’t force him to resign.  But some time has passed.  And it seems his behavior has not been conformed.  And so maybe Brian will reassess his own position and do what the citizens expect him to do – which is put them first and not himself first.”

Berger was released from jail this morning on an $800 unsecured bond.  His court date is set for January 16th.
