Sam Marshall from the Brunswick County Cooperative Extension came to the station to tell us about a brand new 12-week program called the Cape Fear Backyard Naturalist Program. Sam is a horticulturist involved in bring this program to fruition.
A variety of speakers are lined up to explore topics from soil to insects to water quality in our area. The program is crafted specifically to address the ecosystems of urban dwellers. The goal is to create stewards of a vibrant urban ecosystem. Local field trips are a part of the program.
The program, created by the NCSU Cooperative and the NC National Estuarine Research Reserve, begins on March 19 and runs through June 6, meeting every Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 at Wilmington Brewing Company on Kerr Avenue. Saturday field trips are also on the agenda. There are still a handful of spaces left-if you are interested in joining, email the program here.
