If you are planning on leaving ahead of Dorian, today is the day to do it. Governor Roy Cooper is urging people to evacuate before the storm approaches the area tomorrow. For drivers who do need to be on the roads while or after the storm hits, the North Carolina Department of Transportation is stressing caution.
Dorian probably isn’t going to be as severe as Florence. That’s according to Gerard Taylor, an NCDOT Assistant Division Maintenance Engineer. Taylor stresses, however, that drivers still shouldn’t let their guard down.
“Every storm is unique and there's always a potential for flooding, no matter where you’re at. And that's why if you do see a flooded roadway to slow down and turn around, because you really just don't know the depth, or even if the road's still there.”
North Carolinians can call 511 at any time for the latest updates on specific road conditions and closures.
