Wilmington Opens Outdoor Market

04-25-11 – The City of Wilmington has organized a new open-air marketplace in downtown Wilmington. Vendors set up shop for the second time yesterday.
The Historic Downtown Wilmington Marketplace is not the first of its kind in the port city. Downtown Services Specialist Kim Adams says that in 2009, a program called Sunday Scene ran through the summer months in Riverfront Park.
"It was a huge success. We did that all summer; however, we didn't do it in 2010 because we wanted to go back and examine ways that we could do it better without a street closure, so it could be more appealing to the overall downtown population."
Adams says that about 20 vendors are participating right now, but they have the capacity for 53 artists, crafters, farmers, and live musicians.
