New Wilmington Transit Station to Open

04-21-11 – Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority will open its newest transit station in Wilmington by Monday.
The WAVE transit station cost $5.5 million in federal, state, and local funds, and the project has been in the works for about eight years.
WAVE's executive director Albert Eby says that environmentally-friendly features will save on future expenses.
"Certainly, we'll see an estimated 45-55% reduction to our operating costs due to the environmental amenities we've added the station including a vegetative roof, geothermal heating and AC, pervious pavement, LED lights."
The new Forden Station is named for a former transportation authority board chair, the late Harry Forden.
Eby says that WAVE's next project is going out to bid on the construction of a new central office at the end of this year.
