The Gulf Spill: A Personal Narrative (Part 1)
By David Gessner and Roderick McClain
04-20-11 – A year ago this week, the BP Deepwater Horizon well blew up in what President Obama has called "the worst environmental disaster in United States History." Nature writer and UNCW professor David Gessner went down to the Gulf last summer to write a book called The Tarball Chronicles, due out in September.
In WHQR's two-part series, The Gulf Spill: A Personal Narrative, Gessner recounts his time in the Gulf, beginning in Bayou La Batre, Alabama where he spoke to everyday people directly affected by the disaster.
Tune in again on Friday during Morning Edition and All Things Considered to hear about the second half of Gessner's journey.
