A few cats in Horry County have been granted another chance at finding a permanent home. Today (Friday) and tomorrow, county officials are holding a feline adopt-a-thon for animals seized from a privately operated rescue facility.
More than two hundred animals were at the Sacred Vision Animal Sanctuary in Myrtle Beach when PETA, with footage from an undercover investigator, asked a judge to intervene. Horry County's Lisa Bourcier says a veterinarian determined one hundred of the animals were suffering and had to be euthanized.
"That left us with one hundred and one that we have been treating with strong anti-biotic. They still had some upper respiratory issues, but we've been treating them medically and they're doing very well."
To date, forty cats have been adopted and fifty more remain, while ten are undergoing further testing. Sacred Vision Animal Sanctuary was allowed to keep thirty animals, and county officials say a judge will decide the sanctuary's fate, though no court appearance has been scheduled.
