02-18-11 – UNCW has officially launched its fundraising campaign, which has raised nearly $57.7 million since 2005. The announcement comes with news of two major donations, including an endowment from the McNeill family that is the largest outright gift the school has ever received.
UNCW officials have not disclosed the amount, but they say the money will go toward the School of Nursing which just opened a new facility last fall known as simply, the Nursing Building. Soon, the sign will read: McNeill Hall.
Executive Campaign Committee Member Lee Garrett says the funding has transformed the School of Nursing.
"They've never really had a home anywhere on campus specifically. They've always been diverted in different directions, but now we have a home, and we have a name for that home a purpose."
The other gift is $250,000 from Sylvia and George Rountree to upgrade the man's basketball facilities in Trask Coliseum.
The final goal of UNCW's campaign is to raise $65 million by December of 2012.
