StarNews Conscience Fair Matches Nonprofits and Volunteers
By Jennifer Montague
02-04-11 – For residents across New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick counties who want to volunteer but don't know how to get started, tomorrow's StarNews Media Conscience Fair will provide some answers.
The event connects local nonprofits to the people who are interested in volunteering. There will be a wide variety of organizations participating, including Cape Fear St. Bernard Rescue, the American Red Cross, and the Tidewater Camellia Club.
In its fourth year, this event continues to grow, as Si Cantwell, of the Wilmington StarNews explains:
"The first year it was much smaller, fewer people came, and then every year it's grown. Last year we had 77 nonprofits there and more than 500 people came to talk to the representatives from the nonprofits and this year we have 111."
During the event, there will also be mini-workshops on creating effective nonprofit board memberships, as well as a volunteer recognition ceremony.
