Breazeale Ponders Run as Independent

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – Will Breazeale, who lost in the Republican primary last week for the 7th Congressional District, says he's exploring a run as an Independent.

Breazeale lost to Illario Pantano to challenge Democratic incumbent Mike McIntyre.

He says he thinks he's the better choice for Congress, and isn't listening to GOP leaders from around the district who are urging him not to run.

"They're going to have to get over it. Because I'm always, always going to do what's best for my country and my community. And I really feel sad that there's not a true conservative choice for this election."

Breazeale says he's looking into the feasibility of collecting nearly 19,000 signatures by the end of June to get on the ballot.

He says he will announce whether he will run as an Independent Wednesday morning.
