Wilmington, NC – New Hanover County Commissioners tonight will tackle special zoning requirements and licensing fees for Internet sweepstakes parlors.
Zoning requirements include: limiting their hours from 8:00 am to midnight seven days a week; keeping them at least 1,000 feet from parks and churches; and banning them from selling alcohol.
Commissioners will also vote on whether to charge a privilege licensing tax of $3,000 per machine.
Carolina Beach has approved a $3,000 licensing fee. Wilmington's City Council will vote tomorrow night on a similar fee.
New Hanover County's moratorium on new parlors runs out at the end of the month.
