Not Much Change in Area Jobless Rate

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – Unemployment numbers for February show no real movement in the jobless rate for the Cape Fear Region.

New Hanover County's unemployment rate edged up slightly from 10.5% in January to 10.6% in February. Metro Wilmington's jobless rate inched down slightly.

Wilmington resident Erica Murphy says she lost her job last year, and has been looking regularly for a new one ever since.

Across the region, Brunswick County, which had been taking a beating from the sluggish economy, saw its unemployment rate drop a bit.

Onslow County, whose economy is helped by the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base, saw its unemployment rate drop a bit as well.
